After graduating from Leeds University with a degree in popular and world music, Pete spent several years in the music industry as an artist, writer and producer. He was a member of indie/electro band Heads We Dance who were signed to 679/Warner and This Is Fake DIY Records. The band topped the Hype Machine’s chart of most blogged artists in the world, received plays on BBC Radio 1 and press in NME, Mixmag and The Independent, performed live with Robyn, Little Boots and The Presets and released their self-produced debut album in 2009.
Pete then returned to Leeds University and graduated with a master’s degree in law, focussing on intellectual property law. He now specialises in music and commercial law, for which he was shortlisted by the Yorkshire Legal Awards in 2014 as a “Rising Star”. Pete is recommended by the Legal 500, he is on the panel of solicitors for PRS for Music and BASCA, and is a Friend of the Association of Independent Music. His clients include artists, writers, managers, record labels and publishers across all genres of music.
Outside of the office, Pete guest lectures on music law and business at several universities and colleges, provides comment on music law matters for live TV and radio, takes part in music industry panels, and writes articles for key industry publications including Music Week.
